We would like to assure you that we have, currently are, and will always hold your care and safety as our number one priority in all that we do. At no time have we functioned with any bad intentions. The current issue we are dealing with is a misunderstanding of what proper laboratory permits were required of us.
In 2003, a CLIA-waived lab certificate from the Federal Government was immediately obtained for Hilo Urgent Care Center. Renewal has been processed through the Hawaii Dept of Health, every 2 years without any incident or further directions.
We were unaware at anytime of the need for additional CLIA certificates and state permits for our satellite clinic Keaau Urgent Care Center as we are one company “Hilo Urgent Care Center”. After inspection in March 2025, the first ever inspection in 22 years, we obtained the required federal CLIA-waived certificate for Keaau in under 2 weeks, April 2025.
At no time in the past 22 years has an additional Hawaii State CLIA laboratory permit been requested by the Hawaii Dept of Health. Had they done so, we would have immediately applied for one.
Hawaii State CLIA permits for both clinics have also been submitted. We are still awaiting their response.
For 22 years in Hilo, and 18 years in Keaau, our clinics have been there for our massively under served communities. When COVID hit, we stayed open; seeing patients face to face, when almost all other clinics stopped. Not just testing but evaluating and treating patients as is the kuleana of any medical facility. We take this very seriously.
