Workmans Compensation in Hawaiʻi

Accidents and illnesses happen all over the workplace. In some professions, these accidents are bound to happen more than others. When these accidents and illnesses happen, these employees are covered and protected by Hawaiʻi Workmans Compensation law of 1915.

What To Do When Filing A Claim

In the event of a work-related injury or illness, you must notify your employer right away. Your employer will then file a document called "Employer's Report of Industrial Injury" to the Disability Compensation Division within seven working days. If the employer believes that the injury or illness was not work-related, they can also file the same report.

Employer Responsibilities

Employers are responsible for having information for Workmans Compensation available to their staff by posting them in places most accessible to their staff. The employer is also responsible for providing the injured employee a copy of Highlights of the Hawaiʻi Workers' Compensation Law within three working days of notice of injury.
